January re-cap

At the Saturday breakfast, we all enjoyed a wonderful meal cooked by Chris and the crew.  There were no muffins evident as pork and beans ruled the roost.  Numbers were down a little, not surprisingly, probably due to the weather conditions.  David Redekop was our guest speaker.  He is a retired physics professor (U.B.C.) but prefers to be known as a traveling evangelist.  David told us of his experiences from both fields, and his presentation was enlightening and interesting as well as being entertaining.  Chris is off to the U.K. this coming week, to spend some time with the RZIM crew in Oxford.  Please, let’s keep him (and his family) in our prayers as they travel.

Next breakfast meeting is in February, same time and place.  Check the events tab for dates and a reminder email will be sent a week in advance.

Here is an email from Chris – thanks!

Fellas / Brothers

RZIM

I just wanted to express my thanks to each and every one of you on the recent RZIM events. I am truly grateful for all of the support and encouragement.

I have learned things about this ministry which I did not know before, and these lead me to believe that RZIM is the most influential ministry in the world. We have the honor and the privilege of standing with them.

Spending time with these guys over the past few days, I feel I had the chance to look past the veil. After the Comox Rotary club meeting, Michael Ramsden took questions for another two hours. He was the last to leave. After the Isfeld event, he spent ½ hour with the last questioner doing a mini bible study, after which the young questioner, with tears rolling down his cheeks thanked Michael, promising to go and read the Bible. He had no idea that it could answer the questions he was wrestling with. This is what the RZIM team talks about when there are not in the bright lights, and it warms my heart.

I feel this is what the abundant life looks like.

Bless each and every one of you.

Next breakfast will be in January.

As soon as Courageous is released, we will be doing a movie night, with either steaks or pulled pork!

Remember, the Train Station meets every Tuesday at 7:30 till 8:30. Short, sweet and the Spirit moves.

Chris

We few

We happy few

We band of brothers

The RZIM weekend in the Comox Valley is done and dusted – what a great success!  The Thursday night Rotary presentation, breakfast for the pastors, the Friday night main event (around 500 people attended) and our very own Band of Brothers breakfast were all warmly accepted and attended.  Feedback from everyone was that the weekend was well put together and the presentations thought-provoking and challenging, echoing the slogan of RZIM – helping the thinker to believer and the believer to think.

For more information on RZIM and the event speakers, please visit Ravi Zacharias International Ministeries or the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics.

Possibly most encouraging is that members of the RZIM team noted they would return to the Valley!  Have a great weekend!

If you are interested, a group from the Band of Brothers is going to the movies tonight to see Courageous.  The show runs at 6:45pm; click here for details.  For those who can’t make it, we may try to hold a potluck dinner type of thing one night when the movie is on DVD and have a group dinner/movie – details to follow.

Have a great week!

By now, most of you know about Movember (no, it isn’t a typo!).  Movember started in Australia and has now become a world-wide phenomenon whereby men sport mustaches for the month of November to raise funds and generate publicity for prostate cancer.  For those of you not sporting the ‘stache, are you planning to take the plunge and do something different this month?  Most of us know someone who has battled prostate cancer; let’s show them our support by participating.

For more information on Movember, please click here.  You can learn about the idea, participate, donate and also find local groups who are supporting the event.

Hi guys! Here is an update on sponsorship opportunities for the November RZIM event.  Please consider this yourself, if you own a business (or you just wish to donate); in addition, please forward this to anyone you think might be interested.

  • Pastor’s breakfast (Friday morning)   sponsorship required $700 total – donations gratefully accepted
  • Main event (Friday night)  any and all sponsorship welcome; tickets available for $5 (churches and groups – it is best to buy blocks of 20 tickets for $100); business sponsorships are available for $100 and your logo will be in the program and on an overhead screen
  • Donations are eligible for a tax receipt from RZIM
  • For more information on donations (or the event as a whole), please contact Chris   (ckutyn@gmail.com  or   890.3320)

Finally, stayed tuned to a few local radio stations – Ravi Zacharias himself will be doing some radio commercials promoting the weekend events.

Have a great day!

Hi everyone!  Glad to see so many faces out this morning!  We enjoyed a great breakfast as usual followed by a quick presentation from Chris.  He touched on our ‘Band o’ Brothers’ theme, based on an excerpt from Henry V; showed a short video about getting our physical ‘being’ back in shape (click here to view it again on the website); and then spoke about the upcoming RZIM event, here in the Valley on the weekend of Nov 24-26.  Chris encouraged us to step up and volunteer for the many tasks required to get this event up and running; for more information, please check on this website under the upcoming events tab.  Tickets are $5 for the main event and are available in blocks so if your church or group or sports team wants some, let Chris know.  In addition, if you know of someone who is not yet signed up for this website, please encourage them to do so in order that they might receive the email updates on a regular basis.  Thanks and have a great autumn!
